The Ericson Method: Why Is It A Secret?
The Ericson method was patented by Dr. Ronald Ericsson and was pioneered and put into use sometime around the mid 70’s.
The father will provide a sperm sample at a licensed Ericson clinic. The sample will then be processed for gender selection. They will then use the sample to inseminate the mother. The process will take about 4 hours. The process takes place on the same day that the mother is expected to ovulate.
The mother will be inseminated by a intra uterine insemination or a intra cervical insemination. If the gender selection is suppose to provide the couple with a girl the mother will also take Clomiphene Citrate (brand name of this medication is Clomid).
Because this method is patented it is very hard for any outside parties to receive accurate or confirmed results from the 48 clinic in the united states that provide this gender selection method. Even Dr. Ericson himself admits that retaining these results is " like pulling hens teeth".
The effectiveness of the Ericson method is usually not dismissed by fertility experts. It is especially not dismissed in the clinics where the Ericson’s method is provided.
The Ericson method will claim that it’s method will alter the "x" and "y" chromosome ratio in sperm. So, with this claim the baby gender selection world is wondering " why then in any published studies do the results all come out the same- with a 50/50 ratio of x and y chromosome sperm?"
The Ericson method is licensed through a company that is founded by Dr. Ericson. This company is called Gametrics, Ltd. Only fertility clinics that opt to pay the licensing fee may claim to provide the actual method by name. So if the clinic is not licensed then they are not using the method. They are also not permitted to claim to use the method
The company does provide a website. The website is devoid of any useful information and just provides the location information for the clinics. In large text it refers to a method using a formula that goes like this "22+x/y" but gives no indication of what this formula might entail.
My best assumption is that they don’t want to offer to much information as to what goes on in a procedure that claims to offer accurate gender selection but offers no proof to the promise. Also as I said before in any studies that met the light of day there is no proof that the Ericson method makes it more likely for you to conceive the baby gender of your choice.
